Filmfare awards event is as old as National Film awards event in India. It is one of the most prestigious award ceremonies for film artists and technicians. The awards are presented by the company which owns giant media conglomerate, BCCL as its flagship - The Times Group. To honor the best among the best in Hindi film industry, the 2016 Filmfare awards were held on 15th January in Mumbai.
The annual award function remained, its typical star studded affair in 2016 too. The banter between Salman Khan and Rekha off stage was cute for the eye. Equally amusing were the funny moments involving Irrfan Khan and Sonu Sood. Amitabh Bachchan and the beautiful black lady was an expected occurrence. Twittersphere was kept busy on account of FIlmfare Awards 2016 by the stars themselves.
Shah Rukh Khan and Kapil Sharma took over the hosting duties for the ceremony. Shah Rukh Khan in company with Alia Bhatt, parodied the twerking of Miley Cyprus and Robin Thicke of 2013 MTV awards, to add few minutes of spectacle. Karan Johar contributed to the cheeky humor by joining the team of hosts for the ceremony. Audience was in splits, thanks largely to the humor, spectacle and entertainment.
Bajirao Mastani won awards on 9 categories, without missing out on 'Best Film'. Piku won 6 awards, which would have made Amitabh Bachchan proud. Amitabh and Deepika's father-daughter combo earned the critic's choice for Best Film. There wasn't any prize for guessing best director award, it was bagged by Sanjay Leela Bhansali for Bajirao Mastani. Bajrangi Bhaijaan's heartwarming plot won the Best Story Award.
Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone bagged the best actor and actress award for Bajirao Mastani(2015) and Piku(2015) respectively. Sooraj Pancholi and Bhumi Pednekar won the coveted best debut male and female titles for Hero and Haisha. Best Playback singer male and female awards, were bagged by Arijit Singh and Shreya Goshal. To top the glamour quotient of the ceremony, Jacqueline Fernandez performed for songs from nominated films to rock the stage.
The star studded awards soon going to be air on on Sony TV, Indians living in USA can watch the show live using Sony TV online.
